Welcome to the Black River Local Schools and our website. This website was developed to share information about our great schools with everyone both near and far. Let me introduce the "Black River Pirates" to you.
Black River is a small rural district of approximately 1200 students. There is no community of Black River. The district is composed of Five townships that are where Lorain, Medina and Ashland Counties meet. In fact, a portion of the district complex is in Ashland and Medina Counties. We are considered to be in North Central Ohio. We are an hour west of Cleveland and two hours east of Toledo. We have two buildings which serve our district. Our largest building is our newest building, it is called The Black River Education Center (BREC). Our students moved into this building in 1996. It houses our students from Pre K thru 8th grade. Our High School, which is our oldest building has housed our high school students (9-12) since 1960.
At the Beginning of the 2019-2020 School Year, the District began the process of developing and working through a 5 year Strategic Plan. The following items are products of this Strategic Plan:
Our District's vision
Honoring our tradition-Supporting our Community-Educating our future
Our District's Mission:
Through unique and diverse opportunities, academic excellence, community engagement and a safe mentoring environment, we build a strong foundation for families and future leaders
Our District Core Values Are:
E--Engaged and encouraging
E--Enrolled, enlisted, employed
R--Resourceful and Responsible
We are also proud of our students in our activities that we provide outside of the school day. Our student participation in extra curricular actitivities is high, our students also are involved in Co curricular activities such as FFA, FCCLA and Band and Choir and other Arts as well. The colors of Black and Gold can be seen throughout our buildings and is worn by our students representing our district at competitions.
I am very proud of the Black River Local Schools. Our Academic, athletic programs and activities are utlilized to make a well rounded student. Please explore our website and experience what it means to be a "Pirate"
