Welcome to the Black River Local Schools and our website. This website was developed to share information about our great schools with everyone both near and far. Let me introduce the "Black River Pirates" to you.
Black River is a small rural district of approximately 1200 students. There is no community of Black River. The district is composed of Five townships that are where Lorain, Medina and Ashland Counties meet. In fact, a portion of the district complex is in Ashland and Medina Counties. We are considered to be in North Central Ohio. We are an hour west of Cleveland and two hours east of Toledo. We have two buildings which serve our district. Our largest building is our newest building, it is called The Black River Education Center (BREC). Our students moved into this building in 1996. It houses our students from Pre K thru 8th grade. Our High School, which is our oldest building has housed our high school students (9-12) since 1960.
Our District's vision is Black River…. "World-Class citizens reaching their full potential" Our mission is: In partnership with the community, Black River Schools provides the highest quality education to all students, by engaging them with challenging opportunities in a safe technologically rich environment, through superior staff, facilities and curriculum. In order to accomplish this mission, we have four goals that we continually working on: Communication, Technology, Facility Improvements, Increase and maintain student enrollment. The board of education, administration and staff consider our district's vision, mission and goals as we make decisions considering the operations of our district.
The Black River Local Schools have a tradition of academic excellence. The community encourages and supports our curriculum that prepares our students to achieve to the best of their ability. The faculty has high expectations and through their instruction and dedication in and outside the classroom, our students excel. Our school system has worked hard at improving our test data, I would like to compare our students successes to more than test data and monitor how they are performing in society and the workforce once they graduate from Black River.
We are also proud of our students in our activities that we provide outside of the school day. Our student participation in extra curricular actitivities is high, our students also are involved in Co curricular activities such as FFA, FCCLA and Band and Choir and the Arts as well. The colors of Black and Gold can be seen throughout our buildings and is worn by our students representing our district at competitions.
I am very proud of the Black River Local Schools. Our Academic, athletic programs and activities are utlilized to make a well rounded student. Please explore our website and experience what it means to be a "Pirate"
