Mrs. Bowens Biography

I have taught at Black River since 2007.  I have taught both fourth and fifth grades as well as all subject areas.  Prior to Black River, I taught at Elyria City Schools.   This is my 21st year of teaching.   I have an Associated Degree in Business, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Literacy.  I enjoy spending time camping and traveling with my two sons and husband.

Fourth Grade Content

 Our fourth grade classrooms are learning communities driven by respect, equity, and consistency. We hold high expectations for every student while encouraging students to take risks, make mistakes, encounter new learning, and ask questions to increase their knowledge.

In fourth grade students will focus on a variety of Ohio Standards. Some of our most important standards are:
Language Arts
Fiction and Non-Fiction Comprehension, Writing multi-paragraph essays relating to texts and research, and exploring a variety of genres in texts.
Multiplication and Long Division, Fractions, Decimals, Geometry, Metric Units, and solving multi-step word problems.
Social Studies
Map Skills, Native Americans, Government, Economics, Founding of Our Country, and Civil War.
Scientific Method, Earth's Surface, Fossils, Living Things, and Energy.
