As always, the health, safety and wellness of our students is the top priority of Black River Local Schools. That is why we are proud to announce that we will be providing all students with facial coverings to utilize during the 2020-2021 school year.
In accordance with state mandates and as outlined in the district’s Reopening Plan, all Black River students, grades K-12, will be required to wear a facial covering for in-person learning and while riding on the school bus. We want to ensure each student is able to comply with these guidelines. As such, the district will be supplying Humanity face shields and face masks for our students as outlined below.
The Black River Local School district has purchased Humanity face shields for all students in grades K-3, as well as for special needs students and students enrolled in foreign language classes. The face shields are specially designed to allow students to see the faces of peers, teachers and other school personnel. Additionally, they allow for safe interaction due to the shield’s transparency and additional respiratory droplet control barrier that complies with CDC guidelines. The face shields are best suited for these groups of students because they allow for increased visibility and the ability to learn through facial cues. Additionally, special needs students with sensory issues often feel more comfortable with face shields as opposed to cloth masks.
Black River Local Schools is currently working with Cintas to provide face masks for our older students in grades 4-12, so that they can have access to a clean mask every day. If a student in grades 4-12 prefers to wear a Humanity face shield, families may purchase one directly from the company.
It is important that each student wear a clean face mask every day that they are in school and on school transportation. The face shields can easily be cleaned with soap and hot water and hung to dry, and many cloth face masks are machine washable. While all students will receive a facial covering from the district, they may provide their own if they wish.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate these difficult times. We are in this together! If you have any questions, please reach out to the Black River Local Schools administration at (419) 736-3300.
