Six Black River Student Council members recently attended the Ohio Association of Student Leaders (OASL) State Conference in Belpre, Ohio, where they represented their school with pride and returned home with several honors recognizing their leadership and service.
The Black River High School Student Council was recognized for its commitment to serving others and making a difference in the community. The group received the World Changers Award, which highlights student organizations that demonstrate outstanding dedication to community service. The award specifically recognized the council’s continued work supporting Toys for Tots, an initiative that helps ensure local children experience the joy of the holiday season.
In addition, the High School Student Council received the School Impact Award, recognizing the organization’s dedication to maintaining a strong, active program throughout the entire school year. This award honors councils that consistently plan and complete meaningful activities and objectives that positively impact their school community.
Black River Middle School Student Council was also recognized during the conference, celebrating an impressive milestone as a 10-year member of the Ohio Association of Student Leaders. This recognition highlights the school’s long-standing commitment to developing student leadership and service opportunities for middle school students.
Several individual students were also honored during the conference for their leadership and contributions within both the school and the community. Those honors include: Selena Pintos- OASL Ambassador Award and All-Ohio Outstanding Leader, Kallie Bacho- All-Ohio Outstanding Leader, Marley Kostecki- All-Ohio Outstanding Leader, Grace Racut- All-Ohio Outstanding Leader, and Brooklyn Shinsky- All-Ohio Outstanding Leader.
The weekend served as a valuable opportunity for students to learn, collaborate with other schools across the state, and continue developing the leadership skills that help make Black River a stronger school community.
